This Mink

Came up from the water at Tidal Falls in Hancock, Maine and went into the
cement boat ramp crevices. Then it popped its head up out of the crack and
worked its way closer and closer to me, staring right at my lens as I held
it steady at my face while sitting at the edge of the building/ It came as
close as 10 feet. |

Green Winged Teal

This was the cutest and feistiest little duck that showed up on the open
water in Ellsworth during the winter. He swam around with the mallards and
sometimes chased them off. One day he had an intense fight with a male
mallard that looked to be 3 times his size. I have shots of the mallard
holding the little teal under water by the throat and still the teal got
loose , swam a circle around the mallard and went in for another beating. |
The Gull With A Water Boatman..

This was surprising to see...Not only that the gull had a huge insect,
but also that it was during the winter when most of the river was frozen.

| Mr. Phoebe

With his nest sitting inconspicuously out of notice to the many people
frequenting his area, he leads a very busy life while the Mrs. is nesting.
In between catching food to take to the nest, he actively tries to lead all
humans away from the area by attracting their attention from one spot to
another. He and the Mrs. successfully raised their chicks despite hoards of
tourists, weekly concerts and many large birds frequenting their nesting
grounds. He even managed to fledge his chicks without me seeing the event
that I was watching for.

White-winged Crossbill

Came to the feeders only one day during the 2010-2011 winter season. Being a
bird that comes down from the north to feed on the seeds of pine cones when
the crops are scarce in their higher latitudes, it is always a joy to find
them at a feeder. In the past I've I was fortunate to walk among a flock of
crossbills that foraged on the ground without fleeing. I almost stepped on
one as it moved about my feet. I watched one walked under another
photographer's bent leg as he knelt among them. |
Cedar Waxwing

This little beauty appeared to need some recovery time, hanging around
the yard and not getting any height to his attempted flights. I was able to
get within 3 feet of this bird, so kept an eye on it for several hours until
it became determined to hop out to the road at which time I intervened and
took it to a safer area after examining its condition. It had a lot of pin
feathers (developing) around its cere and on its wings and seemed a bit
small , but with decent body mass. So it was released into a safer
area where it eventually disappeared from.

The Bear & The Geese

While photographing Canada Geese on the golf coarse in Maine, the geese
start acting differently and as I looked up to see why, this bear was
galloping across the golf coarse and scattering the geese. The 2 geese in the
picture did not move much because they had chicks in the grass. |

This is a young one. The young siblings are always a fun study each year
